Shops Acts.
In conjunction with the Council's Clean Food Campaign a
survey of all shops in the area was commenced in relation to the
sanitary provisions of Shops Acts. A report on this survey
will be included in the report for the year 1950.
Smoke Abatement.
Mention was made in the report for the previous year of
complaints which have been received as to the emission of grit
from a chimney stacks. of a factory in the town. After full investigation
it was found impossible to provide a grit arrestor which
would give that degree of efficiency such as would warrant its
installation and, therefore, the use of a better grade of fuel was
pursued. This action resulted in a considerable improvement in
the emission of grit.
Swimming Baths and Pools.
Summaries of the daily chlorine and akalinity readings are
forwarded weekly to the Health Department by the Pool Superintendent.
Samples of the water at the Pool were taken during
the year, and these are reported on under the heading "Bacteriological
Examinations."
Schools.
The general condition of and supply of water to Schools has
been satisfactory during the year, but in two instances improvements
were effected in connection with sanitary accommodation.
PREMISES AND OCCUPATIONS WHICH CAN BE
CONTROLLED BY BYE-LAWS OR REGULATIONS
