ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE YEAR 1946
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Chingford Corporation.
Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
I have pleasure in presenting my first Annual Report
upon the health and sanitary circumstances of the Borough.
It is very satisfactory to note that the Birth Rate has
risen steeply, the rate being 20.4 compared with 16.03 for
the previous year.
In addition, both the general Death Rate and the Death
Rate of Infants under one year of age are lower than those
for 1945, the figures being: Death Rate 7.6 (1945, 8.5) and
Infant Death Rate 27.1 (1945, 29.7).
There is nothing of note to mention regarding the
incidence of Infectious Disease; there were no epidemics or
unusual outbreaks of any illness.
In conclusion, thanks are due to the Chief Sanitary
Inspector, Mr. James F. Rogers, and the staff of the Health
Department for their help and co-operation during the year.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
J. H. CROSBY,
Medical Officer of Health.
October, 1947.
