ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE YEAR 1941.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Chingford Corporation.
Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
I have the honour to present my first Annual Report upon
the health and sanitary circumstances of the district.
Owing to the need for economy in time and paper the contents
of this Report have been restricted to essentials, and on the grounds
of national security, the undesirability of publishing comprehensive
statistics has been borne in mind.
The general health of the district has remained at a high
level, the most encouraging feature being the low infant mortality
rate of 16 per thousand live births, which is the lowest rate ever
recorded for the district—a very creditable achievement under
war-time conditions.
Although no report of Civil Defence activities is included,
the Health Department has continued to devote a considerable
proportion of its time to the Casualty and other Civil Defence
Services of the district.
I take this opportunity of thanking the Chief Sanitary
Inspector, Mr. James F. Rogers, and the staff of the Health
Department, whose help and co-operation have been invaluable
during this, my first year of office.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
WM. D. HYDE
Medical Officer of Health.
September, 1942.
