ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE YEAR 1939
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Chingford Corporation.
Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
I have the honour to present my Annual Report upon the
Health and Sanitary Circumstances of the district, in the form
prescribed by the Ministry of Health.
Owing to the War and the need for economy in the use of
paper the contents of the report have been reduced to their main
essentials. As will be seen the incidence of scarlet fever increased
as compared with the previous year, but not to an excessive degree.
(144 cases). There has been no excessive mortality or illness due
to infectious diseases or other causes. The health of the community
during 1939 has not been affected by the War, as conditions of
life were comparatively very little changed from their normal.
I take this opportunity of thanking the Chief Sanitary
Inspector, Mr. James F. Rogers, and the staff of the Public Health
Department for their help and co'operation during the past year,
and of acknowledging also the support received from the Chairman
and Members of the Public Health Committee. My thanks are also
due to my predecessor, Dr. Fry, for his kindly assistance to me at
the commencement of my duties in June.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
G. B. MURRAY,
Medical Officer of Health.
May, 1939.
