Summary of Inspections
The total number of visits paid by the Sanitary Inspectors
to various premises for all purposes is summarised below,
together with the number of defects found under specific
headings.
The visits numbered 3,585, as compared with 11,872 in the
previous year; the defects dealt with numbered 1,139, as compared
with 815 in 1936. It should be noted that the number of
visits in 1936 was inflated by those found necessary in connection
with the Preliminary Housing Survey.
The normal routine work of the inspectorial staff 'was
interrupted during the year in no small measure, by changes in
personnel and by additional duties caused by the applications
received from owners for " permitted numbers " in relation to
the houses under their control.
