It was considered desirable to carry out an exhaustive survey of establishments
where petroleum/petroleum mixtures are stored. Comprehensive
details are now available of conditions existing at all establishments subject to
licence. Where practicable, such as in the case of renewal of petrol pumps,
an opportunity has been taken to apply an air test to existing underground
storage tanks; the pumps are required to comply with recommendations as to
flameproofing of motors and electrical equipment and in each case the manufacturers
of the equipment have been kind enough to give the necessary
certificate to say that the equipment complies with the conditions laid down
by the Corporation.
Rent Restriction Certificates.
One certificate was granted for premises which were in bad repair.
Two cancellation certificates were issued in respect of premises which were
put in reasonable state of repair.
Tents, Vans and Sheds.
During 1952, one renewal of consent was issued for temporary sites for
caravans.
Smoke Abatement.
It was not necessary to take any formal action during 1952 regarding
excessive emissions of smoke.
Schools.
Inspections of the sanitary arrangements and canteens at the schools
within the jurisdiction of the Divisional Executive were carried out by the
sanitary inspectors during the year 1952. It was not necessary to close any
schools on account of infectious disease among children.
Ambulance Facilities.
The Middlesex County Council is the responsible authority for the provision
of the ambulance service under the National Health Service Act, 1946.
Rag Flock and Other Filling Materials Act, 1951.
Four premises have so far been registered under the Rag Flock and Other
Filling Materials Act, 1951, and one sample of rag flock was obtained and was
satisfactory. There are no premises requiring to be licensed as there is no
manufacture or storage of rag flock in the Borough.
National Assistance Act, 1948, Section 47.
It was not necessary, during 1952, to remove to suitable premises any
persons in need of care and attention.
