Legal Proceedings.
During the year legal proceedings were taken in five instances with the
following results:—
(a) 38, Sandycvmbe Road, Twickenham.
For non-compliance with the requirements of the Public
Health Act, 1936, sections 39 and 94, the summonses were
withdrawn, following prior completion of the works, on payment
of costs amounting to one guinea.
(b) 24, Queens Road, Twickenham.
For non-compliance with the requirements of the Public
Health Act, 1936, sections 92/4, the summons was withdrawn
after adjournment of one month, during which time the works
were completed.
(c) 56, York Road, Teddmgton.
For non-compliance with the requirements of the Public
Health Act, 1936, sections 45 and 94, an order for the work
to be completed with 28 days was made, a fine of £5 was
imposed, and costs awarded to the extent of 5 guineas.
(d) 136, Broom Road, Teddington.
For non-compliance with the requirements of the Public
Health Act, 1936, sections 92/4, proceedings were adjourned
for one month, during which time the works were completed
and further action withdrawn.
(e) 62, Kings Road, Teddington.
For non-compliance with the requirements of the Public
Health Act, 1936, sections 92/4, the summons was withdrawn,
costs being paid by defendant, as the works of repair had
previously been completed satisfactorily.
Houses Let in Lodgings.
There is one common lodging house in the borough. This was kept in
a satisfactory condition during the year and the registration was renewed.
Destruction of Rats and Mice.

The Infestation Order, 1943
There are four Rodent Operatives and one Rodent Officer employed under
the general direction of the Chief Sanitary Inspector on the work of rodent
destruction.
During 1948, 14,605 visits were made to premises within the borough,
and, of this total, initial visits following upon complaint or resulting from
surveys numbered 7,073, the remaining 7,521 visits comprising re-inspections
in connection with laying baits, poisoning and trapping.
The success of the scheme enabling occupiers to enter into contract with
the Corporation for rodent destruction may be judged by the following
summary, there being 467 contracts made and income received amounting to
£594 17s. 3d.
It was found necessary to serve 243 preliminary notices, 105 statutory
notices, and 22 notices of the Corporation's intention to carry out work in
default.
