Hospitals.
On the 5th July, 1948, the hospitals in the borough passed to the control
of the North.West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board.
Mortuary.
During the year 74 bodies were admitted to the mortuary. In all cases
post.mortem examinations were held.
Provision of Insulin.
The Corporation provided insulin for certain classes of persons suffering
from diabetes, twelve cases being on the register of the department on the
4th July, 1948. Thereafter the patients were able to obtain a prescription
from their own doctors for a free supply under the National Health Service.
Health Education.
Up to the 5th July, 1948, every use was made of various health education
methods, including propaganda by posters and leaflets, lectures illustrated by
films or lantern slides and demonstrations. Copies of "Better Health" and
the " Health Education Journal " were also circulated.
The Corporation still have power under Section 179 of the Public Health
Act, 1936, to continue health education work-and there is tremendous scope
for this in food hygiene campaigns and other fields-but the major share will
be carried out by the County Council.
Film Shows in Clinics.
Considerable thought was given as to the best method of introducing
health education films to the mothers attending the clinics. An experiment
was carried out on the following lines.
The films "Your Children and You," and "Round Figures," were
sorrowed from the Central Council for Health Education for a period of five
weeks. Arrangements were made for the showing of the films for a complete
week at each centre, at 3 p.m. or 3.30 p.m. on clinic afternoons.
