PIG FOOD œ LLECTION AND TREATMENT
This valuable service has been continued and extended, despi
labour shortage and defective collection vehicles. The food shortage
has made its continuation throughout 1945 imperative, although the
collection bins in certain streets in the Borough have not net with
universal approbation from the residents.
SALVAGE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL.
These services have continued at a slightly lower level, as
regards amounts of materials collected, than in 1944, particularly of
waste papor, but the aggregate amounts recovered and sold still give
very substantial figures.
RIVERS AND STREAMS
No action was necessary during the year concerning the
pollution of the River Thames or streams within the Borough.
SANITARY INSECTION OF DISTRICT
The following summary shows the good results achieved by
the Sanitary Inspectors who were working under the handicap of being
three short for a long period. Mr. Creasey resigned in June.
In October, however, Mr. T. Williams was appointed Chief
Sanitary Inspector, and Mr. C. Chesterman and Mr. F. A. Sadler
District Sanitary Inspectors. The two otter commenced duty in
December.

Prosecutions
During the year a summons was applied for in two instances
in respect of non-compliance with abatement notices issued under
section 93 of the Public Health Act, 1936.
