Pneumonia, Malaria and Dysentery.
Pneumonia. There was a decrease both in the number of
cases notified and the deaths recorded from this disease
viz. 49 and 53 respectively, as compared with 60 and 65
for the previous year.
Malaria. No case of malaria was notified during the
year.
Dysentery. One case of dysentery was notified during
the year. This was treated in hospital.
Acute Poliomyelitis. Acuta Polio-encephalitis
Two cases of acute poliomyelitis were notified during
the year. Both wore treated in hospital. There was one death.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum

Puerperal Pyrexia
Eleven cases of puerperal pyrexia were notified - a
decrease of seven compared with the previous year. Six-were
admitted to the West Middlesex Hospital and one to the North
Western Hospital.
Enteric Fever
No cases of enteric fever.(which includes the paratyphoid
fevers) were notified during the year. There were no deaths.
Typhoid immunization
Facilities were again available at the clinics for
typhoid immunization, but no cases were dealt with during the year.
Cerebro-spinal fever
One case of cerebro-spinal fever was notified, the same
as the previous year. There was one death.
Measles and Whooping Cough
During the year 66 cases of measles were notified as
compared with 450 for the previous year, There were no deaths.
Whooping cough also declined, during the year, 202 cases
being notified as compared with 317 for the previous year.
There was one death.
(b) NON-NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Influenza
The influenza epidemic which had assumed serious
proportions at the close of 1943 had practically subsided by the end
of January. As hitherto every effort was made to ensure that
emergency help was available for persons in difficulty owing to
sickness or other domestic crisis as a result of the epidemic.
Other
During the year the following cases of non-notifiable
infectious diseases were brought to the notice of the Department.
