PROVISION OP INSULIN.
The provision of insulin for certain classes of persons
suffering from diabetes was continued. . Five cases were on the
register of the Department at the end of the year.
HEALTH EDUCATION
The development of Health Education showed good progress
during the year and included the continued use of displays of posters
on public hoardings, etc. , the distribution of leaflets and a
limited number of copies of "Better Health".
In conjunction with the Twickenham Local Youth Committee,
two series of lectures on Sex Education were held for (a) parents,
youth leaders, welfare officers, teachers and clergy and (b) young
people (l4 to 20 years). The courses were an unqualified success
an average of 400 persons attending the acquit course - and proved
helpful to parents and young people.
PROMOTION OF CLEANLINESS, ETC.
The scheme for head and cleanliness inspections in the
schools which included the use of First Aid Post Nurses and
specially authorised auxiliary nurses worked satisfactorily during
the year. In addition the health visitors continued the methods of
persuasion, advice and counsel in the promotion of cleanliness and
good habits and the elimination of verminous conditions. Complete
co-operation existed between the First Aid Post nurses and authorised
auxiliary nurses and the health visitors so that when school children
were being cleansed for verminous conditions at the cleansing station
children under five living in the same house and if need be their
mothers were dealt with at the same time. Suitable pamphlets were
also distributed at the Infant Welfare Centres.
MATERNITY AND CHILD WE L F A R E
MIDWIFERY AND MATERNITY SERVICES
The total number of births notified as occurring in the
Borough was 1,200. This does not include births which occurred
elsewhere but which were subsequently transferred to Twickenham.
Of the births occurring in the Borough, 802 were attended
by midwives in their capacity as midwives, and 398 by doctors.
Municipal midwives.-attended 427 births - 318 in their capacity as
midwives and-" 109 as maternity nurses with doctors in charge.
