maternal mortality
I have much pleasure in recording that no deaths were
registered as being due to diseases or accidents of child-birth as
compared with 6 deaths for the year 1943.
The maternal mortality rate per 1,000 total (live and still)
births, for England and Wales was 1.93.
infantile mortality
There were 6l deaths of infants under one year during the
year, giving an infantile mortality rate of 37.1 per 1,000 live births
This shows a further reduction compared with the figure, of 47.99 for
%3. The rate for England and Wales in 1944 was 46.
Congenital malformations, premature birth, etc. caused 48
or 78.69%) of the total infant deaths.
