and works of the Middlesex County Council has continued without
modification of any kind.
RIVERS AND STREAMS
No complaints of pollution of the river Thames or streams
were received by the Department during the year.
PUBLIC CLEANSING
The three refuse destructors at Twickenham, Teddington
and Hampton, remain in use, pending approval of a centralising
scheme after the war. The more intensive salvage operations,
together with a number of alterations made at the Twickenham
destructor site to assist these operations, have considerably
diminished the wear and 1 tear on the destructor furnaces, and are
enabling those plants to cope with a situation which would
otherwise be causing grave difficulties.
It is of interest to note that the Corporation's
receipts for salvage sold are now well over £12,000 per annum.
SANITARY INSPECTION OF DISTRICT.
The visits paid in each branch of the work are set
out under the appropriate headings.
