(b) NON-NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Diseases under this heading include mumps and chickenpox.
The exact incidence of these diseases is uncertain but
some indication of their prevalence is obtained from the number
of intimations received from the Head Teachers of children
thought to be suffering from the diseases. The numbers f
1940 were very low.
TUBERCULOSIS
The number of new cases of tuberculosis notified during
1940 was 126 as compared with 125 for the previous year. The
number of deaths recorded from this disease was 58 which
showed a decrease. The following table prepared from the
records in the Department summarises the position.

Public Health (Prevention of Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925.
During the year under review it was not found necessary
to take action under the above Regulations with reference to
persons suffering from tuberculosis and employed in the milk
trade.
Public Health Act. 1936 (Section 172).
This section of the Public Health Act is concerned with
the compulsory removal to hospital of persons suffering from
tuberculosis. It was not found necessary to exercise our
powers thereunder during the year.
PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS
No action was taken during the year under section 176 of
the public Health Act, 1936, for the prevention of blindness
or for the treatment of persons suffering from any disease
or injury to the eyes.
