Borough Treasurer to prepare the necessary report from the
financial aspect. A Sub-Committee was also appointed to
inspect the areas.
With the deterioration of the international
situation and the consequent speeding-up of work on Air Raid
Precautions, however, progress was impeded. Following the
outbreak of war the Minister of Health issued circular No.
1866-"Housing Acts-Postponement of Work" -which was
virtually a "stand-still" order so far as Clearance Areas
were concerned. Consideration of this matter will, therefore,
have to remain in abeyance until after the war.
Despite the difficulties experienced owing to
the Inspectorial staff being engaged, from time to time, on
other duties, every effort was made to carry out inspections
under this heading. One noteworthy point was the reinspection
of the whole of the cases of overcrowding on the
files of the Department, and the result is shown in the
figures appearing in the following statistical table.
