HOSPITALS.
For Infectious Diseases.
There is now no hospital for infectious diseases in the Borough. Arrangements for the
treatment of Smallpox are made by the Middlesex County Council under the "Prevention and
Treatment of Smallpox Regulations, 1928." Other cases of infectious disease are admitted
to the Hospital of the South Middlesex Joint Hospital Board in Isleworth. This hospital receives
patients from the Boroughs of Heston-Isleworth, Richmond (Surrey), and Twickenham.
Other Hospitals.
Following are the voluntary hospitals in the Borough; all are "Cottage hospitals, i.e.,
they are without a resident medical officer:—
St. John's Hospital, Twickenham.
St. Mary's Hospital, Hampton.
The Teddington, Hampton Wick and District Memorial Hospital, Teddington.
MIDWIFERY AND MATERNITY SERVICES.
The total number of births which were notified as occurring in the Borough was 974. This
figure does not include births which occurred elsewhere, but which were subsequently transferred
to Twickenham.
Of the births which occurred in the Borough, 472, i.e., 48 per cent. were attended by
midwives in their capacity as midwives, and 200, i.e., 20 per cent. in their capacity as maternity
nurses. Midwives were therefore present in approximately 68 per cent. of all the births which
took place in the Borough.
