As in previous years, diseases of the heart and circulation, cancer and tuberculosis were
the principal causes of death. Diseases of the heart and circulation and cerebral haemorrhage
accounted for 35 per cent., Cancer for 15 per cent., and Tuberculosis for 6 per cent, of the total
deaths.

Puerperal Deaths.
Four women died from conditions associated with pregnancy or childbirth, one of these
deaths being due to puerperal sepsis. The maternal death rate was 2.7 per 1,000 total births.
