To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the Borough of Barnes.
Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present the Annual Report of the Medical
Officer of Health for the year 1961, upon the Sanitary Circumstances,
Sanitary Administration and Vital Statistics of the Borough.
The form of the Report is in accordance with the instructions of
the Minister of Health, and special mention is made of certain items
at the Minister's request.
The report shows that the health of the residents has been
maintained at the usual high level and that a great deal of preventive
work has been carried out from the Health Department.
I am indebted to Mr. W. L. Leach, Chief Public Health Inspector,
whose report on the Sanitary Circumstances of the District is included;
and I would draw your attention to the remarks on the difficult
problem of 'Housing' with which I am in complete agreement.
Mr. G. W. Nicholls, Chief Clerk, resigned his appointment
during this year and I am grateful to Mr. J. A. Brown, his successor,
who has dealt with the Vital Statistics and has prepared the Report
for the printers.
Finally, I wish to express my thanks to the Chairman and
Members of the Health Committee for their support throughout the
year, and to every member of staff of the Public Health Department
for their loyalty and co'operation.
