Vital Statistics.
The Births notified in the district number 481, compared with
570 for 1916. The births will probably continue to fall for a few
years owing to the present social and economic conditions. For
1917 the rate is 13.2 per 1,000 of the population, compared with
16.4 in 1916. The Deaths of residents in the district number 264,
compared with 256 in 1916. This gives a residential death rate of
8.2 per 1,000, compared with 7.3 in 1916. This is a strictly
residential death rate, and does not include people who have died
elsewhere and given a Barnes or Mortlake address. This rate is
10.9, compared with 10.5 in 1916. Deaths from the principal
Zymotic Diseases number 13 in 1917, compared with 11 in 1916.
The district Infantile Mortality or deaths under 1 year
number 33, compared with 37 in 1916. This gives a death rate of
68.6, compared with 62.4 in 1916.
