In response to the request from one trade union to be consulted
about the requirements of the Order and Direction a Divisional
Officer was interviewed who pointed out the need, if slaughtering
facilities were provided, for proper arrangements in the way of
welfare and hygiene for the workers and for the humane handling
of animals and the hygienic preparation of carcases, etc.
The reply to the Minister by the Town Clerk after a report was
submitted to the Council was as follows:
(i) That having regard to both the needs of persons likely to require
the use of slaughtering facilities, and of other persons, the Council
is satisfied that the existing arrangements are satisfactory; that
future requirements can be met thereby and that there is no need
for slaughterhouses within its districts;
(ii) That no slaughterhouses exist within the district;
(iii) That there are no premises for which a slaughterhouse licence
is in force or was in force at some date during the twelve months
preceding the submission of this report.
(iv) That there are no outstanding applications for new slaughterhouse
licences.
The Minister in acknowledging the receipt of the report indicated
his acceptance thereof.
