DOMESTIC HELP SERVICE
The Domestic Help Organiser reports as follows:—
The call for the provision of Home Helps continues to increase and
the recruiting of suitable Helps presents a difficult problem.
The service has expanded in all sections particularly in the provision
of help for the Aged Chronic Sick. The Aged Chronic Sick form approximately
80 per cent of the patients receiving help. The amount of
help provided varies with the individual needs from two hours per
week for heavy cleaning to as much as twenty hours per week which
provides for meals and personal hygiene. Relations are encouraged to
help bedridden and aged patients in the evening and week-ends.
Three new requests for help have been received from tuberculous
households, and those already receiving help, are visited frequently
and assistance given in accordance with the recommendation of the
Chest Physician.
The provision of Helps to homes deprived of one parent continues
to increase. With this help, the families have been able to remain
together, rather than the children having to be sent to foster homes.
This is proving a most valuable service but the shortage of suitable
Home Helps is most keenly felt in this section of the service.
The W.V.S. "Meals on Wheels" service continues, rendering invaluable
assistance, providing meals on Wednesdays and Fridays.
In general, the service provided is similar to that of previous years,
all cases being visited as frequently as possible. A total of 1165 visits
has been made in the year.
Liaison with the Child Care Officers. District Nurses, Health Visitors
and Hospital Almoners is being maintained.
