NEO-NATAL MORTALITY
The neo-natal mortality is the number of infants dying under one
month per 1,000 live births. During 1958 7 infants died in the first
four weeks of life, a rate of 9.36.
CARE OF PREMATURE INFANTS
During 1958, 35 premature infants were born to residents in the
Borough, 5 of these births taking place at home and 30 in hospital
or nursing home. 4 of the 5 born at home were alive at the end of one
month; 27 of the 30 born in hospital or private nursing home survived.
CHILD WELFARE CENTRES
Attendance at the Child Welfare Clinics has increased slightly
during 1958, no doubt in large measure due to the additional clinic
which was commenced at All Saints Church Hall, Woodford Wells
during 1957 for the benefit of the population in the northern part of
the Area. Although some of the centres are conducted in old buildings,
it can be said that the Borough is well catered for and generally there
is a centre within a mile radius of every home.
