Heating Appliances (Fireguards) Act, 1952.
Constant watch is maintained on premises retailing heating appliances,
especially those where second-hand goods are on sale. Although
possibly made prior to the coming into force of the Act, when resold
the heaters must comply with the Act's requirements. The majority
of manufacturers of heating appliances are complying with the Act
in detail, often improving the appearance and efficiency of the heaters
in so doing.

Swimming Bath Water.
The Borough does not possess a municipal swimming pool, although
there exist within its boundaries four pools, 3 of which belong to
schools and one to a well-known children's home.
Five samples of swimming pool water were obtained during the
year, the bacteriologist reporting that in three cases the water was
suitable for bathing purposes. In the fourth he considered that a higher
standard of bacterial purity should be aimed at together with an
increase in the residuum of chlorine.
Because of these observations the headmaster who was communicated
with had the matter attended to. A further sample of water was
obtained which indicated that the steps taken by the headmaster had
improved the standard, the bacteriologist stating that it was of a very
satisfactory organic quality for a swimming bath and that it was of a
high standard of bacterial purity. The result indicated a water suitable
for bathing purposes.
