Overcrowding
Overcrowding in its legal sense is an offence under the Housing
Act, in which is set out details constituting overcrowding.
During the year one case was reported to the Public Health Committee
and one case abated.
Meat Inspection.
The arrangement made with the Port of London Authority, reported
last year, continued and a large number of frozen carcases were inspected
at a local wholesale meat depot in the early part of the year.
The carcases had been on board ship and damaged in transit.
Meat and canned foods are supplied to a large number of retailers
on this side of London.
It should be possible to ensure by regular inspections and with the
co-operation of the firm concerned that all home-killed meat sold has
been inspected at the proper place, i.e., the slaughterhouse, before
arrival at the depot. The depot is a convenient place to check that
retailers' vans which are used to collect the meat comply with the
Food Hygiene Regulations.
