Smoke Abatement
The recording of atmospheric pollution has continued throughout
the year; the readings being confined to smoke and sulphur dioxide.
Tabulated data is forwarded monthly to the Fuel Research Station
at Greenwich.
In January the Public Health Committee considered a request
from the Essex County Council asking the Borough Council to supply
a further recording instrument with a view to establishing throughout
the county additional sites for recording instruments. The new
set-up was designed by the Fuel Research Station in conjunction
with the Essex County Council to cover as well as possible the whole
of Essex with a chain of recording stations.
This Authority, having provided one set of recording instruments,
resolved not to provide a second mainly on the grounds that because
of the geographical lay-out of the Borough any second set would be
in close proximity to those in adjoining Boroughs. Wanstead and
Woodford were not asked to set up a station with deposit gauge or
lead peroxide apparatus.
