Scheme was devised in order to assist ex-service personnel in training for the
Post of Sanitary Inspector and whose opportunity of studying for the Joint
Board Examination was interrupted by being "called up" for service with
the armed forces. The Council agreed to accept a maximum of two pupils
at a time into the Public Health Department and up to the end of the year
two had received training in the Sanitary Inspectors' section of the Public
health Department, although more had been allocated. The number was
reduced owing to the acceptance by the Joint Board of some candidates at an
earlier examination. It is pleasing to report that the two trainees mentioned
were successful in the subsequent examination.
