In last year's report I commented on the lack of regular health
supervision at Colleges of Further Education. It is pleasing to note that under
recent proposals for inclusion in the reorganisation of the National Health
Service, this gap in the services will be closed.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION OF STAFF
In connection with their appointment for duties with this Council,
24 officers and staff completed Personal Health Report forms which were duly
assessed; 11 received a medical examination. 35 employees were re-assessed
and reported on for sick-pay and superannuation purposes, following prolonged
periods of sick-leave or retirement. 4 employees were examined in connection
with their employment as heavy goods vehicle drivers.
SECTION. 47, NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT, 1948 AND NATIONAL ASSISTANCE
(AMENDMENT) ACT, 1951 and 1962
10 cases in possible need of care and attention were investigated
by this Department during the year and kept under observation with the
services of the district nurse, social services, meals-on-wheels, as
necessary. Subsequently, 3 cases were voluntarily removed to hospital,
where 1 died.

90 requests for priority for re-housing on medical grounds were
referred to me for assessment, usually supported by a doctor's written
certificate. Each case was fully investigated and my recommendations
were as follows:-
