There has been a large and welcome increase in the number of
children immunised against smallpox, diphtheria and whooping cough. The
number of children immunised against poliomyelitis however, fell by 27%
due no doubt to the fact that there have been no cases of this disease in
the District since 1962.
SECTION 47, NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT, 1948, AND NATIONAL ASSISTANCE:
(AMENDMENT) ACT, 1951.
10 persons in possible need of care and attention were investigated
during the year. 6 cases, including 1 outstanding from last year, were
voluntarily removed to appropriate accommodation either in hospitals or old
people's hostels; the remainder were kept under observation at home. The
meals-on-wheels service continued to assist where necessary and was much
appreciated.

The Medical Officer of Health examined 33 officers and staff of
the Chigwell Urban District Council and 40 officers and staff of the Essex
County Council on appointment for duties in the District; also 8 Chigwell
Urban District Council and 5 Essex County Council staff were assessed and
