a. INFECTIOUS DISEASE.
683 enquiries and. revisits were mc.de during the year
regarding notifications of the following infectious diseases.
Scarlet Fever 35
Food Poisoning 11
Sonne Dysentery 113
Where necessary, specimens were taken, and submitted for
xamination to St. Margarotk Hospital, Pathological Drpartmont, or
thr County Laboratory.
9. RODENT CONTROL.
623 complaints of rat or mice infestation were dealt with
and 2,615 visits were made, treatment was made in all cases requiring
2,054 baits being laid.
Baits were also laid im 291 sewor manholes with 15 takes
resulting.
10. WASP AND OTHER INSECT NUISANCES.
362 complaints were reoeived and dealt with,where accessible,
the wc.sp,s nests are removed or destroyed in situ, in ether cases
gammaxene dust is used to destroy the infestation. The Public Health
Department also received many requests for advice regarding treatment
for infestation of woodworm, silver fish, ants, larder beetles and
cockroaches.
11. CARAVANS.
The Council's responsibilities under The Caravans Site and
Control of Development Act, I960, are being carried out and improvement
of site conditions is being effected. There are 17 licensed sites in
the district.
Buckhurst Hill 2 sites
Chigwell 13 sites
Loughton 2 sites
2 caravan licences have lapsed during the period resulting
in the removal of 2 caravans from the area.
12. AIR POLLUTION.
The measurements of Smoke and S&ilphur Dioxide in the atmosphere
of the district has continued throughout the year by means of a
volumetric apparatus, results indicate that conditions in the area are
good and that there are no serious smcke pollution problems to be overcome
at present.
