SECTION E.
INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD
(a) Milk Supply.
The district remains a specified area under the provisions
of Section 23 of the Food and Drugs (Milk, Dairies and Artificial
Cream) Act, 1950.
58 samples of milk were taken by the Weights and Measures
Department of the Essex County Council during the year and
all were reported upon as genuine.
16' dairies and milkshops are registered. 38 visits to these
premises have been made.
9 licences have been issued to firms with premises outside
the District to purvey milk in the District.
There are 12 registered milk purveyors licensed under the
Milk (Special Designation) (Pasteurised and Sterilised) Regulations
1949 and the Milk (Special Designation) (Raw Milk)
Regulations 1949.
(b) Meat and Other Foods.
SLAUGHTERING AND BUTCHERS' SHOPS.
There are 4 slaughterhouses in the District all licensed under
Section 57 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938. In addition, there
is one Knackers Yard also licensed under this Act.

Slaughtering for this District is carried out in centralised
Ministry of Food slaughterhouses situated outside the District.
During the year assistance in meat inspection has been
afforded at the Ministry of Food slaughterhouse, Waltham
Abbey. 44 visits have been made to slaughterhouses.
There are 27 butchers' shops in the District 298 visits have
been made to these premises.
7 licenses to sell game have been issued.
