The unsatisfactory sample was taken from a vehicle in Chigwell.
It was manufactured at Romford and that Local Authority
was immediately contacted. The Public Health Department
reported that the conditions at the factory and the manufacturing
processes were satisfactory. Samples taken of this firm's
ice cream by us since then have been satisfactory.
4 samples of ice lollies were taken during the year and the
following reports were received:—
Made in the District:—
Very Satisfactory 1
Made outside the District:—
Excellent 1
Satisfactory 1
Unsatisfactory 1
The matter of the unsatisfactory sample was taken up with
the Local Authority concerned who gave a good report of the
processes of manufacture and the premises. The vendor
changed his supplier when he received the unsatisfactory report
and it was not possible to take further samples. A sample
from the new supplier received an excellent report.
The standard for ice cream was amended in July, 1952 and
is now as follows:—
Fat 4 per cent.
Sugar 10 per cent.
Milk Solids other than fat 5 per cent.
