Section C.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
1. Water—
The water supply for almost the whole district is derived from the
Metropolitan Water Board, and is very satisfactory both in quality
and quantity. There are a few isolated houses where the supply
is from wells.
Despite the extensive work done to the well at "Broadstoode
Lodge," Keeper's Cottage, Loughton, the samples of water taken have
not yet proved entirely satisfactory and the tenant is continuing to boil
the water before using it for drinking purposes.
Precautions have been taken to guard against contamination of
emergency water supplies should the main supply be cut off as a result
of enemy action. Every wardens' post in the district has been issued
with a supply of water steriliser and this will be made available to the
public should necessity arise. Directions as to the proper use of
the fluid have been given to Wardens' Posts.
Drainage and Sewerage—
The sewage disposal plants continue to work efficiently and yield
a satisfactory effluent.
