Section C.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
1. (i) Water—
The water supply for almost the whole district is derived from
the Metropolitan Water Board. This supply is very satisfactory both
in quality and quantity. There are a few isolated houses where the
supply is from wells. In one instance the present supply from a well
to three houses is unsatisfactory and instructions have been issued for
all water to be boiled before use, and in one of the houses it is being
chlorinated. It is hoped to connect these premises to the main supply
during 1939.
(ii) Drainage and Sewerage—
The scheme for the new intercepting sewer between Debden Green
and Luxborough, and the construction of new outfall works on the
Luxborough site, has been commenced during the year and very satisfactory
progress has been made. The completion of this scheme will
enable the use of the present Loughton and Buckurst Hill Works, and
the small works at Debden, to be discontinued, and the pumping stations
at Rous Road and Monkhams Estate, Buckhurst Hill, to be dispensed
with. Present indications point to the new scheme being in operation
some time in the Autumn of 1939.
