SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
1. (i) Water—
Water is supplied by the Metropolitan Water Board, the
supply is satisfactory both in quality and quantity.
(ii) Drainage and Sewerage—
The scheme for the new intercepting sewer between Loughton
existing works and the Luxborough site, where new works are to be
constructed, still awaits the sanction of the Ministry of Health.
Arrangements have been concluded in the meantime by which the
scheme will be extended to include a new intercepting sewer from
Loughton works to Debden Green and the permission of the Ministry
of Health has been obtained to the inviting of tenders for the complete
scheme. These will be advertised for early in 1938.
During the year a soil sewer has been laid in Fencepiece Road,
Chigwell, with a local pumping station near the district boundary and a
rising main back to the existing gravity sewer in Hainault Road. The
scheme prepared by and carried out by contract under the supervision
of the Council's Engineer and Surveyor, has been in operation for some
months and removes the local drainage difficulty in this vicinity. It is
very satisfactory that a substantial number of the property owners in
Fencepiece Road have connected up their soil drainage to the new
sewer provided and dispensed with the previous cesspools.
It is anticipated that during 1938 the small Grange Hill Sewage
Works will be dispensed with by a scheme involving the provisions of
new main sewers and a pumping station in connection with development
by the London Passenger Transport Board associated with the
electrification of the railway.
