The amount of tuberculosis amongst Indian residents rose again in 1958, comparative figures for the last three years are:—

In two of the houses occupied by Indian patients there were second cases associated
with overcrowded living conditions, but no deaths occurred from this disease amongst the
Indian population.
The analysis of the housing conditions of new cases shows that of the notified patients
living in Southall, exclusive of the St. Bernard's Hospital notifications, housing conditions
were reasonably good in all except four cases. In each of these there was statutory overcrowding.
No abatement of the overcrowding had been obtained by the end of 1958.
In four families, there were second cases of tuberculosis, and in one of these, three
patients were suffering from the disease at the same time. This family was one of those living
in overcrowded conditions.
One case remaining in overcrowded conditions since 1956 was still not ameliorated at
the end of the year. There were no overcrowded families with tuberculosis in the household
remaining from 1957.
