was thanked for this work and asked to keep the school conditions under observation at sixmonthly
intervals.
With regard to the welfare of old people, in addition to the cases recorded in the text
as having been dealt with through the Public Health Department, there were very many
individual enquiries concerning problems of old people, and during 1950 the initiation of a
Committee for Old People's Welfare in the Borough was very welcome as a central Committee
for dealing with all the problems of the old and ageing, and having as its members representatives
from all the separate bodies dealing with old people. This ought to lead to an
improvement in the speed with which cases of distress can be relieved.
I should like to thank all the members of the staff of the Public Health Department
for their energy and enthusiasm in the cause of health, for their assistance in the preparation
of this Report and for their loyal support at all times.
I am, Your Worship, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Medical Officer of Health.
Manor House, Southall.
