Of the total cases seen, 599 (433 new cases and 166 brought forward from 1939),
422 were completed during the year, 7 were non-pregnant, 40 left the district, and 130
were uncompleted at the end of the year. This report, therefore, deals with 422 completed
cases, 166 for 1939 and 278 occurring in 1940.
Of these cases 386 were normal and 36 showed abnormalities.

Of the cases dealt with therefore 165, or 39 per cent., were primiparae (against
36 per cent. in 1939) and of these 72 or 43 per cent. (against 69 per cent, in 1939) were
confined in hospital, while 74 cases or 29 per cent. (against 27 per cent.) of the multiparae
were also confined in hospital.
