Action under these powers was not necessary during the year.
REPORT ON THE BOROUGH ISOLATION HOSPITAL
During the year 138 patients were admitted to the Isolation Hospital as compared
with 351 in 1938. Of these, 117 were sent in as scarlatina (261 in 1938) and 20 as diphtheria
(90 in 1938) and one as chickenpox. Of the cases sent in as scarlatina, 6 were
unconfirmed and were diagnosed as suffering from other diseases. Similarly, of the
cases sent in as diphtheria or suspected diphtheria, 11 were unconfirmed.

respectively.

One death was due to bronchitis and cardiac failure in a male of 70 years, and
the other due to septicaemia and double otitis media in a child of 4½ months.
