There are two registered and one licensed slaughterhouses in the district.
There is no public abattoir.
During the year, 364 animals were slaughtered in the slaughterhouses
and all the meat was inspected.
In connection with the inspection of meat and other foods, the following
were found to be diseased or unsound and were voluntarily surrendered
for destruction:—
Meat, including offal and rabbits 1869 lbs.
Fish 259 lbs.
Fruit 784 lbs.
Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933.
This Act came into force on the 1st January, 1934.
On 28th November, 1933, the Council adopted the following motion:—
" That the Urban District Council of Southall-Norwood hereby
resolve that Section 1 of the Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933, shall
on and from the 1st day of January, 1934, apply to sheep, ewes,
wethers, rams and lambs."
Under Section 3 of the Act, fourteen licences each of three years duration
were issued during the year to slaughtermen. No contraventions of
the Act were noted during the year.
Adulteration.
The Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act is administered by the County
Council, and the following figures, which were kindly supplied by the Chief
Officer of the Public Control Department of the County Council, show the
number of samples taken during the year by the Council's Officers in Southall,
and the result of the analyses:—
