Sanitary Inspection of the Area.
The work of the Sanitary Inspectors has continued to grow with the further increase in
population and new legislation has added to the responsibilities of the department. The total
number of inspections and re-inspections carried out during 1938 was 30,118.

Comparative statistics in regard to nuisances, defects, etc., for the years 1936, 1937 and 1938 are given in the following table:—

It is gratifying to record a considerable reduction in the number of nuisances, etc., outstanding
at the end of the year.
