Retirement of Dr. E. H. T. Nash.
I have referred at the beginning of this report to the coming retirement of Dr. E. H.
T. Nash, the School Medical Officer. As you know, Dr. Nash has held office for 17 years, and
1 should like to say here how greatly I have appreciated the opportunity which I have had of
being associated with him in connection with this pioneer work. 1 have found him always to
be extremely helpful and enthusiastic in providing every assistance necessary for carrying out
the aims and objects of the Section.
I feel that should the time arrive (as I am certain it must) when the orthodontic scheme
becomes in fact a National institution it will undoubtedly be almost entirely due to the foresight
and untiring efforts which Dr. Nash has for so long exercised.
Moreover, it will surely be a matter for supreme satisfaction when it is recognised that
the development of a scheme which must have such far-reaching and beneficial effects on the
health of future generations is largely attributable to his work.
Finally, may I take this opportunity of expressing to Dr. Nash my sincere good wishes
on the occasion of his retirement.
In Conclusion.
The continued success of the weekly session scheme at your Clinic, as instanced in no
uncertain manner by the foregoing considerations of difficulties encountered and overcome during
the past seven years, more than ever convinces me that the way is clear for the immediate extension
of the orthodontic clinic to embrace the whole of the country.
I am profoundly certain that under the authority and guidance of the Board of Education
a practical and successful scheme could be inaugurated at once which would prove a most
valuable step forward in that promotion of National health which after all is the ultimate aim
and object of all concerned in child welfare.

(/»). Orthopaedic and Postural Defects.
Although handicapped by the absence of a Clinic for the supervision of orthopaedic and
postural defects, we have been able to secure expert advice for our cases, and one can only place
on record one's gratitude for the manner in which the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital has
co-operated with us in remedying the defects we found amongst our school children during the
year under discussion.

Thirty children from this area attended as Out-patients. Eleven children received Inpatient treatment at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital during the year. The following list shows the conditions treated and the Authority responsible for the charges —
