This scale of repayments does not apply to parents who are members of the Hospital
Saving Association or the Hospital Saturday Fund. In these cases the parents send in a Voucher
in lieu of a contribution, and the Hospital Saving Association and the Hospital Saturday Fund
pay an agreed sum per case to the Education Committee.
(f). Ear Disease and Defective Hearing.
One hundred and sixty cases of ear disease or defective hearing were dealt with at the
school clinics, and 7 were treated bv private arrangement of the parents.
B.I.P. Paste is still used extensively in the three school clinics and the results are extremely
satisfactory.
(g). Dental Defects.
The progress in the Dental section is still not as rapid as could be desired. The fire at the
Health Department in May entailed the removal of the Dental Clinic to the Isleworth Health
Centre for a short period. Early in July, however, the tenancy of 35, Bath Road was obtained
and the Dental Clinic was installed there.
The following additional appointments were made about the same time and the officers
commenced duty during the months shown:—
Mr. Cook—Third Dental Surgeon—June.
Miss Maddick—Dental Attendant—July.
Miss Phillips—Dental Clinic Qerk Attendant—June.
Miss Redgewell—Dental Clinic Clerk Attendant—June.
It was still necessary in 1935 to engage temporary Dental Surgeons and for the whole year
the work done by the various Dental Surgeons amounted in terms of sessions to approximately
three whole time officers.
The following is extracted from the Dental Surgeon's report:—
Inspections.
The number of routine dental inspections amounted to 8,928. In 1934 the figure was 5,949,
and in the previous year, 2,745.
With regard to the Board's Table IV., Group V. (Dental Defects, page 33), it should be
noted that the number of "Specials," 2219, represents special "Inspections" of various kinds
at the Clinic and not individual children. Some of these Specials will also have had a Routine
Dental Inspection and be included in these figures. They also may have had to be referred more
than once as Specials, and will thus have been recorded on each occasion as a special inspection.

The 2,219 are made up of the following types of cases :—

(1) Referred for Gas, or Gas and Ethyl ChlorideHounslow.Isleworth.
(2) Advice given 1,643576
(3) Treatment postponed
(4) Inspection after Gas—required further treatment
