(d). Visual Defects and External Eye Disease.
Six hundred and fifteen cases were submitted to refraction. Spectacles were prescribed
in 574 cases and obtained before the end of the year in 563 cases.
Seven other cases were treated by private arrangement of the parents. Spectacles were
prescribed and obtained in six of these cases.
A total of 163 external eye defects were treated at the School Qinics during the year.
These were chiefly conjunctivitis, blepharitis, with some phlyctenular ulcers and suppurating
conditions of the lids.
I am indebted to Dr. Roberts, who is in charge of the Refraction Qinic, for the following
report:—
VISION AND THE REFRACTION CLINIC.
Arrangements remain the same as at the latter half of 1934, viz., two sessions weekly at
Hounslow and one at Isleworth.
In April the Middlesex County Council's Scheme became operative for providing treatment
for Secondary Scholars at the local Eye Clinics. During the year 32 Secondary Scholars attended.
During May a fire at the Health Department, Hounslow, made it necessary to hold all Eye
Clinics at the Isleworth Centre for the following two months, and cut down the sessions to two
weekly during that period.
In spite of our difficulties however it is pleasant to record that the number of appointments
showed a slight increase over 1934 and that the total percentage attendance also improved, being
93.15 against 92.37 last year.
The following figures show the work done at the Clinic.
