CASE No. 5.
Female. Aqe 9 1/12t/t.
TYPE OF MALOCCLUSION.
Class II. Division I. Inferior Retrusion with Secondary
Proclination of upper incisors. Open Rite and Retroclination
of lower incisors due to thumb sucking.
This patient is a sister of Case 4.
TREATMENT.
The parent was instructed how to stop the thumb sucking.
The lower incisors were then advanced by means of a
vulcanite plate into which screws were inserted, the parent
being instructed to turn the screws a half turn every other
day.
The subsequent treatment was to expand the upper arch
and retract the upper incisors by means of a Badcock plate
carrying a labial wire.
As in the case of the sister the mandible came forward when sufficient room had been made
by expansion to allow it to do so.
The right upper first permanent molar was unsaveable and was extracted before the
eruption of the second molar, thus allowing the latter to travel forward and erupt in the position
of the former.
