CASE No. 4.
Female. Age 7.
TYPE OF MALOCCLUSION
TREATMENT.
Class II Division 1. Inferior Retrusion with Secondary
Proclination of the upper incisors and Close Bite.
When this child was first seen in April, 1932, an operation
for Tonsils and Adenoids was advised in order to give the
patient a clear nasal passage and thus assist in curing the
mouth breathing. The upper arch was then expanded by
means of a Badcock plate to which was attached a labial
retraction wire. This plate also served as a biting plate
to raise the bite.
The effect of expanding the arch has been to allow the mandible to come forward of its
own accord and the teeth are now in normal occlusion.
The patient is at present wearing a retention plate. There is every reason to assume that
the mandible will remain in the forward position. The child's profile is, incidentally, greatly
improved.
