These cases will only be treated after having been seen by the Medical
Officer, and referred by him to the School Dental Surgeon.
2. Procedure.
After being referred for treatment, the general procedure will
be as for School Cases. A consent form must be signed by the
patient, parent or guardian. The appointments will be made by
the School Dental Surgeon and Dental Nurse, and the cases will
usually be treated in conjunction with the ordinary school cases
at the School Dental Clinic. A dental record card will be made
out for each case, similar to the existing School Dental Card.
A charge of 1/- will be made for each patient, (mother or child)
which will cover all ordinary treatment at the Clinic within the
limits of the scheme, for a period of one year.
3. Provision of Dentures for Mothers.
Following the extraction of a mother's teeth, the provision of
dentures will be undretaken by the School Dentist where necessary,
and the Matenity and Child Welfare Committee will be responsible
to him for payment. In each case, before proceeding with the
dentures the Dentist will furnish an estimate of the cost of same to
the Medical Officer.
The mother will then be informed of the cost, and will sign an
undertaking to repay the cost of the dentures and necessary treatment
to the Council. The repayment may, where the circumstances
necessitate, be spread over a period of 1 year, by equal weekly instalments.
In such cases the payments shall be made at the Public
Health Department, or collected by the Health Visitors. In necessitous
cases, where the mother is unable to pay the whole of the cost
and makes a return showing the income and circumstances of the
family, the case will be considered by the Maternity and Child
Welfare Committee with a view to assistance being granted. In
argent or exceptional cases the Chairman of the Maternity and Child
Welfare Committee and the Medical Officer are authorised to deal
with same and report at the next meeting.
