The percentage of immunes is much above the average. It
was found that many of the 54 positives among the boys were very
weak or doubtful, and of the 15 strong positives alone found no less
than 11 had been admitted to the School within 3 months or less.
All the non-immunes were subsequently immunised. The
results among my staff were more severe than one had expected
from all the previous records. Two of the Nurses had severe reactions
and the third had a very bad arm and was ill for six weeks.
All the Nurses had the three full injections.
I got Dr. O'Brien of the Welcome Research Laboratories to
come down and see them. His opinion was that the symptoms in
the Nurses were due to protein sensitiveness. The injection used
was the latest evolved and contained the highest antigen strength
hitherto evolved. None of the children shewed the slightest inconvenience.
I wish to place on record my thanks to Dr. Copeman and Dr.
Scott for the trouble they took in connection with the work.
Diphtheria Antitoxin.
Arrangements have been made whereby boxes containing Sterile
Antitoxin, syringe and the necessary dressings, etc. are kept at the
two Police Stations so as to be available in case of emergency.
Daring 1924, 25 vials of Antitoxin were supplied to medical
practitioners. (6 of 2000 units and 11 of 4000 units and 8 of 8000
units).
Enteric Fever.
There were four cases notified during the year.
Dysentry.
None were notified.

The Assistant Medical Officer and three Nurses were found positive and the final results were:-
