SECTION E. - INSPECTION AND
SUPERVISION OF POOD
MILK
In accordance with the provisions of the Milk and Dairies (General)
Regulations 1959, the handling, distribution and sale of milk continued to
receive the necessary attention. The number of Distributors of milk in
the Borough, as shown by the register kept in accordance with the Regulations,
is 4.2..
MILK (SPECIAL DESIGNATION) REGULATIONS 1960
The following licences, which will remain in force until 31st December,
1965, have been issued under the Regulations:-
Dealers (Pre-packed Milk) Licences -
Tuberculin Tested Milk 31
Pasteurised Milk 34
Sterilised Milk 36
During the year 91 samples of designated milk were submitted for statutory tests. The results were as follows:-

In 12 instances the methylene blue test was not carried out on samples
of pasteurised milk due to the fact that the stipulated atmospheric shade
temperature (70°F.) was exceeded.
ICE-CREAM
During the year 51 samples were submitted for bacteriological
examination. The results were as follcws:-
Grade 1 49
Grade 2 NIL
Grade 3 2
Grade 4 NIL
Grade 1 and 2 samples can be considered satisfactory; only 20% of the
samples taken from any one vendor should be of Grade 3 quality, and none of
Grade 4.
