SECTION C.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
WATER SUPPLY.
The Metropolitan Water Board is responsible for the supply of water to the
Borough and regular periodic examinations are made by that Authority.
The supply of water has been satisfactory in both quantity and auality.
With five exceptions all the dwelling houses in Wimbledon are supplied
from public water mains direct to the houses.
During the year 1962, samples of water were taken for bacteriological
and/or chemical analysis, as follows:-
Bacteriological.
Public Swimming Baths 58
Dwelling houses:-
Metropolitan Water Board supply 5
Well water 7 12
Other Premises:-
Metropolitan Water Board supply 1
71
Eight of the reports upon samples of Swimming Bath Water indicated that
chlorination appeared to be inadequate. Action was taken, and
subsequent samples proved satisfactory.
All other samples of water proved bacteriologically satisfactory.
Chemical.
Dwelling Houses:-
Metropolitan Water Board 1
This sample of water proved chemically satisfactory.
One well water supply is known to be liable to have plumbo-solvent action,
and the galvanized service pipe line to a dwelling house was replaced by
Alkathene tubing in 1958. Subsequent samples have been free of metallic content.
