WHOOPING COUGH IMMUNISATION
As in the case of smallpox vaccination, immunisation against whooping
cough, diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis is carried out either by
general practitioners or at Surrey County Council Clinics. The following
figures show the number of children immunised against whooping cough and
those who received reinforcing doses during the year (this includes those
children who received protection with combined antigens).
Number of children inmunised 810
Number of children boosted 212
DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION
The following table gives details of the number of children under the
age of 15, who were inmunised for the first time during the year 1962,
together with those who received reinforcing doses during the years-
Under 5 years 816
Between 5 and 15 years 55
Number of children given reinforcing
doses during 1962 930
TETANUS IMMUNISATION
Active immunisation against tetanus is available for those who desire
it in the same way as other immunising procedures. Although not a conmon
disease, the mortality rate is high, and immunisation is recommended.
During the year 885 children received protection.
